Board of Taxation Website

The Chairman of the Board of Taxation, Mr Dick Warburton, today launched the Board of Taxation web site.

The Board’s internet address is www.taxboard.gov.au.

‘The web site will be the primary means by which the Board communicates information to the community about its activities’, Mr Warburton said. ‘It also provides the information people need to contact the Board.’

The Board of Taxation was established by the Federal Government in August 2000 to contribute a business and broader community perspective to improving the design of taxation laws and their operation. It is supported by a small secretariat based in the Treasury.

‘The Government is seeking the Board to play a key role in facilitating effective community consultation in the implementation of tax policy decisions and the web site will be integral to the Board’s strategies in this regard’, Mr Warburton noted.

Mr Warburton also indicated that information would soon be available from the web site on the Board’s initial work program, including the Board’s plans for consulting with interested parties on the development of the Tax Value Method of determining the taxable income of businesses. The Government has requested that the Board develop this tax reform option with input from business users.
