Extending BAS / payg income instalment deadlines QE March

Issue

I was wondering if it has ever been put to the table to extend the deadline of BAS & payg income instalments for QE March activity statements of BAS & payg income instalments. Why do I ask? Because for QE December there is an extension of one month offered due to the Christmas / New Year period and loss of working days. So why can't a pro-rata extension be offered for QE March of at least a week, bringing due date to 7th of May in lieu of 29th April. With everything falling due in April (if you do not have an agent lodging your BAS), it can bring a lot of stress to the small to medium business owner to complete the work and lodge on time due to time lost from Easter and Anzac day. Thank you for listening.

Board response

Hi Tanya, thanks for the idea and the Board appreciates the some of these deadlines can clash with other dates. After talking with the ATO, the Board understands that people may be eligible for an extra two weeks to lodge and pay their quarterly BAS if they lodge online. Find out more about the two week lodgement concession for online users here: https://www.ato.gov.au/general/online-services/in-detail/two-week-lodgment-concession---terms-and-conditions/

Further, people are encouraged to contact the ATO if they are having difficulty to lodge or pay on time. More information on not being able to lodge or pay on time can be found here: https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/Business-activity-statements-(BAS)/What-if-you-can-t-lodge-and-pay-on-time-/

We hope that this can be of assistance.
